Transneft Diascan Celebrates its 30th Anniversary

Date of publication: 23 April 2021

Transneft Diascan is celebrating its 30th anniversary since the beginning of its activities. During this period, the company's specialists inspected more than 1 million km of pipelines.

The company (until November 2014 named Technical Diagnosis Centre Diascan) was established in April 1991 to conduct in-line inspection of the pipeline transportation system in accordance with the USSR Government programme to ensure the reliability of oil trunk pipelines.

The establishment of Diascan with a production depot in Lukhovitsy, Moscow Region, marked the beginning of a new industry development. The first launch of an inspection tool was performed in January 1992: at a section of the Almetyevsk – Naberezhnye Chelny oil pipeline, an imported geometry tool which detected pipe geometry defects (dents, buckles, ovality) was tested.

A key milestone in the company's development was the establishment of its own design department in 2001. The business unit was given the ambitious task of developing its own inspection tools which would not be inferior to foreign models.  Within a few years, designers had succeeded not only in providing the company with Russian in-line tools, but also in creating unique equipment that was unparalleled in the world at that time. The combined magnetic-ultrasonic inspection tool, created in 2007, became a real breakthrough in the design of in-line inspection tools; over time, this Diascan’s development was adopted by world-famous manufacturers.

Today, Transneft Diascan is a modern high-tech company that ensures the stable and environmentally friendly operation of the Russian pipeline system.

At present, the total fleet of in-line tools of Transneft Diascan is more than 100 pieces and includes ultrasonic, magnetic, combined inspection tools, geometry tools and devices for determining the pipelines’ position for all standard oil pipelines’ diametres: from 159 mm to 1,220 mm.

Transneft Diascan successfully uses its own advanced inspection developments at pipelines in Russia and abroad. To date, in-line inspection work has been carried out in 16 countries of the world: in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Transneft Diascan is a full-cycle company. In addition to inspection of pipelines and tanks, as well as the development of cleaning and inspection equipment, the company produces components for in-line tools, in-line inspection tools detectors, materials for composite collar repair of pipelines.

The business unit’s headcount is about 2 thou people. Transneft Diascan’s achievements and its employees’ high professional accomplishments were repeatedly marked by both corporate and state awards.

The company makes a significant contribution to the economic development of the area of its operation, implements social and charitable projects. Over the past ten years, with the participation of the company in Lukhovitsy Urban District, about 200 projects have been implemented to support municipal institutions of education, sports, culture and social sector.
