Employee of Transneft Diascan’s Samara Branch Among Winners of Young Scientists International Competition Under Auspices of UNESCO

Date of publication: 08 February 2021

Yaroslav Klimavichus, an engineer of the inspection and instrumental control department of Transneft Diascan’s Samara branch, has received the Best Young Scientist 2020 grant for winning the Topical Issues of Rational Use of Natural Resources International Forum-Contest of Students and Young Researchers.

The awarding was held as part of the Young Science Leaders 2020 scientific session which took place at Saint Petersburg Mining University. The session was attended by 15 winners of various contests organised by the International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO.

The 27-year-old engineer of Transneft Diascan became one of the developers of the oil-contaminated waste disposal mobile complex project. The use of this technological solution will allow to efficiently process oil slime with a further possibility of product extraction (petroleum product, water, inert material) and its use in production. The study is aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment due to a multiple reduction in the volume of waste disposed in an open environment, as well as reducing financial costs for waste disposal with the possibility of generating income from the sale of oil slime processing product.

The project was recognised as one of the best at the Topical Issues of Subsurface Management XVIII All-Russian Conference-Contest for Students and Postgraduates, the Russian qualifying stage of the Topical Issues of Rational Use of Natural Resources XVI International Forum-Contest of Students and Young Researchers. At the conference, the project was highly appreciated by representatives of the international community and its developers were invited to the Young Science Leaders 2020 scientific session for the project presentation and the award ceremony.

Yaroslav Klimavichus has been working in Transneft Diascan’s Samara branch since 2016 as an engineer in the inspection and instrumental control department. He also teaches at Samara State Technical University and is engaged in scientific activities.
