Transneft Diascan Develops Power Supply System for In-Line Inspection Devices Involving Rechargeable Batteries

Date of publication: 27 December 2019

Transneft Diascan has commissioned a power supply system for in-line inspection tools based on rechargeable batteries (accumulator batteries) of repeated use.

The R&D works began in November 2017. As a result, accumulator batteries, chargers and sets of parts for installing the batteries were manufactured. Also, a chassis was assembled and the accumulator battery was tested while installed in in-line inspection tools.

Now, when conducting inspections of oil trunk pipelines, gas pipelines and petroleum products pipelines, inspection tools will be provided with energy using rechargeable batteries. Prior to this, the tools used disposable power supplies.

The new power supply system of inspection tools reduces the cost of conducting in-line inspections and increases the reliability of operation of in-line devices as there is no need to open the battery sections during maintenance.
