Transneft Diascan has taken part in the Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemistry in the Caspian Region international exhibition at the CASPIAN OIL & GAS 2019 forum. The event was held from 29 May to 1 June 2019 in Baku (Azerbaijan).
The Company presented a model of a combined magnetic and ultrasonic inspection tool at its exhibition booth. This pipeline inspection gadget (PIG) had been developed by Transneft Diascan’s design engineers and is unparalleled in the world today. The unique software and hardware device combines the functions of two ultrasonic inspection tools (WM and CD) and a magnetic inspection tool (MFL).
The use of this PIG allows for simultaneous detection and measuring of all kinds of defects within the pipe body and in its transverse and longitudinal welds after just one launch, compared with inspection by means of separate in-line inspection tools. Moreover, the information obtained by this combined defectoscope is more precise than that of three single-section devices. In addition to that, data alignment errors resulting from location inaccuracies and detection time diversity in case of use of several defectoscopes are excluded. Thus, reliable detection and measurement of dangerous combined defects is ensured.
Today, Transneft Diascan has combined magnetic and ultrasonic defectoscopes for pipelines with a 20” to 48” diameter at its disposal.
The Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petroleum Chemistry in the Caspian Region international exhibition (CASPIAN OIL & GAS) is the largest energy sector event in the Caspian region. Every year, industry professionals come together to discuss the key oil and gas projects in the Caspian region, as well as energy security issues.
