Transneft Diascan Presents Domestically Produced Devices for in-Line Inspection at Largest Oil and Gas Exhibition in Africa

Date of publication: 14 March 2019

Transneft Diascan has taken part in the 9th North Africa Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC 2019). The largest event of the industry in Africa was held on 10–13 March in Oran (Algeria).

At the exhibition stand, the Company presented mockup models of in-line inspection tools of its own design and production: the WM ultrasonic inspection tool and the combined magnetic in-line inspection tool with axial and circumferential magnetisation (MFL + TFI).

The WM ultrasonic inspection tool is designed to detect pipeline defects by scanning the pipe material with ultrasound while the tool is moving in the flow of the pumped product. It allows to detect defects such as corrosion, lamination, notches and displacement of girth welds.

Combined inspection tools are one of the unique developments of Transneft Diascan’s designers. The combined magnetic tool (MFL + TFI) allows to detect various types of defects located in the base metal of pipe wall, as well as illegal tappings, through the use of both axial and circumferential magnetisation, more effectively and accurately.

The North Africa Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC) has been held since 2011, and is the largest oil and gas industry forum in Africa. Transneft Diascan participates in the event on regular basis. The Russian company plans to perform in-line inspection in the territory of Algeria in 2019 under a contract with the national oil and gas company Sonatrach.
