Transneft Diascan Takes Part in Mexican Oil Congress

Date of publication: 01 October 2018

Transneft Diascan has participated in Congreso Mexicano del Petróleo (CMP) 2018, a Mexican oil congress and exhibition hosted by the city of Acapulco (Mexico) on 26–29 September 2018.

At the display, the exhibition’s visitors were shown mockup models of unique inspection systems manufactured by Transneft Diascan – combined magnetic (MFL+TFI) and magnetic and ultrasonic (MFL+WM+CD) flaw detectors.

The operating principle of the combined systems relies on a fusion of advantages guaranteed by different inspection methods. The technology enables to detect various defects more efficiently during a single pipeline run, such as corrosion, scratch marks, cracks in transverse and longitudinal welds, lamination and metal losses, and also illegal tappings. Transneft Diascan was among the first in the world to manufacture flaw detectors employing this technology, which afterwards spread among other manufacturers of inspection equipment.

Congreso Mexicano del Petróleo is a crucial regional forum for exchanging the latest developments and technical achievements in oil production and refining. Mexico was among the first countries where Transneft Diascan started implementing its overseas in-line inspection projects. In 2014–2016, professionals of the Russian company utilised their proprietary tools to inspect the Nuevo-Teapa – Salina Cruz oil pipeline.
