The second stage of inspection equipment certification for compliance with European safety requirements started at Transneft Diascan. The leading auditor and a technical expert of Minproject (EAD), the notified body of Bulgaria, arrived to the company premises under a contract on establishing compliance of 40-DMU.01 inspection tool (a combined magnetic ultrasonic defectoscope) with ATEX Directive.
The experts will verify the quality management system (QMS) employed in production of 40-DMU.01 tool that was awarded the European ATEX certificate in 2016. If the audit is passed, the QMS approval will be issued as the second certificate, to enable applying CE mark to the inspection tool. Similar audits will take place each year while the underlying ATEX certificate is valid.
Transneft Diascan products are used in explosive atmospheres and are therefore covered by the ATEX Directive that provides for labelling with СЕ mark. This mark means that the products comply with European safety requirements. Besides, it enables such products to be freely used in the European Union.
ATEX certification is comprised by a few stages:
- bringing the product technical file into compliance with ATEX Directive;
- appraisal of the product technical file by the notified certification body;
- testing a product specimen in the European Union;
- production and quality management system audit;
- obtaining the product certificate.
If successful, the product specimen will be awarded an ATEX EC Type Examination Certificate valid for 5 years.
At the moment, Transneft Diascan has valid ATEX certificate for 40-DMU.01 inspection tool (a combined magnetic ultrasonic defectoscope). In the immediate future, the company intends to get European certification for 22 more inline inspection tool types.
