Transneft Diascan, JSC Got a Patent for a New Method of Ultrasonic Inline Inspection

Transneft Diascan, JSC has got exclusive rights to the “method of high definition ultrasonic thickness gauging” developed by the Company’s professionals and successfully phased in.

The new inspection method is based on the use of an ultrasonic defectoscope for high definition thickness gauging. The ultrasonic signals transmitted to the defectoscope's measuring unit after being reflected from a pipe’s inner walls (with probes positioned circumferentially) are processed under a special algorithm.

The high definition ensures maximum accuracy in determining the defect boundaries at a pipe's inner and outer walls, and boundaries of metal exfoliations. For a number of years, Transneft Diascan, JSC, has been applying its proprietary innovative solution. The experience gained indicates that application of the high definition thickness gauging method enables to calculate the strength and operating lives of pipelines being in use with maximum credibility, which mitigates the risk of accidents and reduces the overhaul costs in respect of oil pipeline transportation facilities.
